Exposure Modeling

Exposure assessment modeling is often an essential component of causation assessment. To understand what, if anything, a chemical exposure may have caused, it is necessary to have some idea of the dose. Exposure modeling is, therefore, used to evaluate:

  • what happens to chemicals when they are used and released to the environment; and
  • how workers, the general public, consumers and the aquatic ecosystems may be exposed to chemicals

ICTM combines the results of our exposure assessment modeling with a health hazard assessment (potential for a chemical to cause adverse health or environmental effects) to determine whether there is a potential risk to human health or the environment. Thus, in toxic tort matters, we are able to use this approach to reconstruct the estimated does and exposure to determine if the claimed injuries are consistent with the clinical course expected at these estimated levels.
